About Our Law Society

The Bishops’ High School Law Society is a student movement that arose at the Bishops’ High School in 2017 as a reaction to the lack of representation of the Arts stream and thereafter transformed into a conscious based movement aimed at raising awareness, building and fostering student advocacy and activism, promoting equity and social justice and further, expanded its mandate of representation to include the entire student population of Bishops’. It was officially established and launched in the Oswald Parry Hall at The Bishops’ High School by a group of upper six form law students on the 17th day of November 2017. The principal founders and coordinators of the group were Darin Chan, Omar Hoppie, Jensen Samaroo, Candacie Holder, Subash Hansraj, Ron Austin, Lindon Isles and Lemar Williams assisted by Ms. Claire Maison and Mr. Selwyn Smartt. Among the first members and additional directives of the groups were Abigail Manbodh, Rea Harris, Moesha Bess, Crystal Johnson, Niquan King, Damali Scott, Anadia David, Calissa Benjamin, Melissa Jupiter, Tyron Rhamanohar, Maranda Bishun, Shanecia Viveirous, Jamol Benjamin, Faith McPherson and Kureece King.
The Law Society since its formation has been the most active club at the Bishops’ High School and remains the principal agent of raising awareness and mobilizing students around social justice movements.
